Clash Force

Take on the evil Crackman and his evil minions in this old school side scroller shooter.  Play as three different heroes and take on over 20 stages of retro shooter action.

General Gameplay

Clash Force GameplayClash Force is an old school 2D side scroller shooter.  You go through each of the levels and then get onto a boss battle at the end of the level.  Throughout the level you can obtain both health packs and weapon upgrades.  If anything, this is a light and easy version of classic shooters like Contra and the Metal Slug series.  The Game Visuals are simplistic in its 8-bit design.  The game is very 8-bit in its graphics from the characters, enemies, and backgrounds.  This was a design to give the game a more of a retro look and feel.  The colors are very bright and vivid on the screen and easily seen when in motion.  The game does not offer a colorblind mode; however, it is not needed.  In our play testing, we did not encounter anything that would be offensive to younger gamers, Clash Force is very family friendly in its game visuals design.  Audio is done in an 8-bit style.  As you would expect to hear from a shooter all the effects, from weapons fire, to enemies’ weapons, your characters jumping, and the 8-bit background soundtrack. Clash Force soundtrack is designed to sound like an old school 80’s style game from the 8-bit era.  The game is presented in 5.1 surround sound as well as 2.0 stereo sound and it sounds great in both formats.  We recommend playing with a stereo headset to get the full sound feel of the game.  In our play testing, we did not hear anything offensive in the game soundtrack that would be offensive to younger gamers.  The game sound and soundtrack are very family friendly. Controls in Clash Force are quite easy to use.  The game mimics its 8-bit design by just having only a weapon fire button as well jumping button.  The left thumb stick is used to character throughout the level.  The game is quite easy to control for all types of gamers.  The controls are very quick in the response and as the game is a shooter this is very vital for the game. As the game is designed to be an old school game there is no need to use a special controller and the standard controller is perfect to use in the game.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game controller settings or gameplay.  The game is very special needs and family friendly.

“Clash Force is a simple, fun shooter for those that are looking for an easy game to play.  With a forgiving difficulty and easy to play controls, this is a great game for casual shooter fans”

Family Friendly

Clash Force gameplay footage 2Clash Force is a simple game that does everything right for those that are looking for a simple platform shooter.  Quite easy control, levels, boss battles and a forgiving difficulty that makes the game quite easy and fun to play for casual gamers.  The game offers three different characters to choose from and lots of different weapon upgrades.  The levels are not to long or shoot, making game sessions easy to go through and get to the boss battles.  Both enemies and bosses are not hard to defeat and once you learn the patters of the enemies it is much easier to beat.  One of the nicer features is that there are three different difficulties to choose from so even more seasoned shooter fans should have a challenge.  Clash Force offers over 20 levels of gameplay and different enemies in each area, which is nice to see from level to level.  However, one of the things that we found interesting is that the way that your character can fire their weapon.  They can only shoot left or right, not up or down.  Now this may be a design aspect of the game but still makes it harder to hit enemies that are above or below you.  This may be an annoyance for some gamers, but it also adds to the old school shooter feel to the game itself.  The game has a feel of the old school shooters like Contra or even games like the Metal Slug series.  Now if anything Clash Force is a light version of the games like this and that is ok as this is a game more aimed towards a casual shooter gaming audience.  Now for more seasoned shooter fans out there may find this game a little too easy but if you are a casual shooter fan then you will enjoy Clash Force.  The only complaint that we had was that the game does not allow you to use your weapon to shoot up or down, but this was a minor issue and does not affect the game play itself.  In our special needs game testing, we did not run into any issues with the game visuals, audio, or controller settings.  The game is very special needs gaming friendly.

Closing

With easy gameplay, controls, forgiving gameplay, Clash Force is a fun game for casual gamers that love platform shooters.  The game may be to easy for more seasoned shooters but still a great game to have for your digital library.
