20XX

20XX is a rouge like Mega Man style of game where you go from level to level fighting off enemies, mid bosses and then a boss, you get to power up one of two characters, however permadeath resets your add-ons and stats.

General Gameplay

If anything, 20XX is a true Mega Man clone where everything that you would do in a Mega Man game is done in this game here.  From fighting enemies in stage specific themes to taking on mid-level bosses and level bosses, taking their abilities and moving onto the next area.  The only difference is that if you are defeated, you lose any non-permanent abilities and power that you have collected in the game.  The game has a rouge like style in its gameplay and approach in being a action/platformer.  The Game Visuals are very vivid and easy to see on the screen.  The graphics are very well drawn where you can see all the details of the main character(s), enemies, backgrounds and even the bosses.  The game looks very fluid in motion like an animation show.  The colors are very bright and easy to see on the screen, as the game does not support a colorblind mode, the games colors are bright and vivid enough for anyone to see in the game.  In our playtesting, we did not see anything that would be offensive to younger gamers, as the game is rated E10 there was some cartoon type violence, but this was the most of what would make the game not suitable for gamers under the age of 7.  The Audio for 20XX is very action oriented.  You in your playthrough will hear the normal sci-fi gunfire, enemies’ banter, and action-oriented background music that you would expect to hear from a game like this.  All of the game sounds sounded very clear and easy to hear in the game.  The game is in 5.1 surround sound and sounds well in a surround environment or even in stereo sound.  In our playthrough we did not hear any spoken dialog in the game as the information was relayed in text in the game so there was nothing offensive to any gamers to hear in the game.  Controls in 20XX are very easy to use.  The game is an action-platformer, so the controls are very tight and responsive in the game.  The left thumb stick controls the character where there is a fire weapon button, buttons for special abilities and weapons, and the right trigger to dash the character.  The controller setup is well done and makes it easy for any type of gamer to pick up and play the game without any trouble.  In our playtesting, none of our game testers had any trouble playing the game.  As the game uses the standard controller, a special controller is not necessary.

“20XX takes what we love about the Mega Man series and does it right.  With great graphics, sound and control, this is a great game for any fans of this type of series.”

Family Friendly

First off if you are or not a fan of the Mega Man series, this is a great game to have in your digital library.  Some gamers may be put off by the permadeath in the game, but do not allow this to be why you do not get the game.  20XX tight controls allow the game to be more approachable for both novice and veteran gamers alike.  The game starts off easy in its difficulty but does gradually gets more harder in its play though, but not hard enough where it gets frustrating, but more challenging.  You can save your game in between levels and the powers ups that you can obtain in the game are different to where any gamer style can fit into the game.  The one upside is that any permanent power ups that you get stay with you from each playthrough, so it is a matter of which one that you want to get.  The game is a challenge, but a fun challenge as each playthrough allows you to better understand the levels, enemies and bosses, so in later playthroughs you are better prepared to deal with them.  Also, as the game is more rouge like in its design, the levels do change to offer more challenge.  20XX offers daily bonuses, as well challenge levels to play and test your skills.  Another great feature is both online and local co-op play where up to two characters can play at the same time.  This offers a great parent/child play experience where both can enjoy the game without any trouble.  In our special needs game testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game visuals, audio or controls for 20XX.  All our special needs gamer really liked the game and had a great time playing it.  If you or any gamers in your gaming family love action/platformers, then 20XX is a must have for any digital collection.
