Blazing Chrome

Live the days of old school side scroller shooters in this Contra and Metal Slug series inspired game that is Blazing Chrome. You and a gamer can play in local co-op taking on the robot armies looking to take out humans once and for all.

General Gameplay

Blazing Chrome is a side scroller platform shooter where up to two players can play local co-op against the game. The game has several levels, a speed run and leaderboards, as well the ability to pick different character (2) at first as more as they unlock that have special abilities.  The Game Visuals for Blazing Chrome are done in a 16-bit style as a throwback of the old Super Contra and Metal Slug days.  There are pixels all over the game from the characters, enemies, backgrounds, and bosses, however this works for the game in its presentation.  The colors are very bright and vibrant on the screen and the graphics are easily seen in motion.  The game does not support a colorblind mode; however, it is not needed as the colors are easily seen for people that have a colorblindness condition.  As the game is rated T – For teen, there is some animated violence but not enough to be unsuitable for gamers under the age of 9.  In our playtesting, we did not encounter any issues for any gamers under the age of 9 to play the game.  As the game is a shooter in its nature, outside of action shooting the game is very family friendly. Audio in Blazing Chrome is a mixture of rock rifts.  If you have played Contra or Metal Slug then you will be right at home with the games background music.  The game has the standard sounds that you would hear from laser fire to enemies banter and vehicles and mech sounds.  All of the sound effects are done well and easy to hear. The game is done in 5.1 surround sound and also sounds well in a 2.0 stereo environment.  As the game does have some spoken dialog, there is no foul or offensive language in the game.   Controls for Blazing Chrome is very easy to use.  As the game is a shooter, the controls are geared towards more of a arcade style of controller set.  There is a shoot button, jump, and other actions where you can change your weapons and roll on the ground.  The controller setup is designed to make it easier for any gamer, veteran or new to side scroller shooters to get into the game without any complex issues.  In our playtesting, we did not run into any issues with the controls for the game as they were very user friendly and easy to play the game.

“A fantastic shooter that takes the best elements of two iconic shooter series and makes an instant classic shooter for this generation”

Family Friendly

First thing to say is that if you are a fan of either the Contra or Metal Slug series, you will love Blazing Chrome.  This game does everything right for a side scroller shooter, from the controls, to graphics, and gameplay, Blazing Chrome does it right.  Also, as the game is a co-op style game where two players can play on the same screen, it is a great couch co-op style game for parents/guardians and children to play.  The gameplay is not to hard or easy but just right for any gamer to pick up and play without trying to learn the game style.  Testing here at the office was backed up as everyone here wanted to play the game and we saw that this was a great game for everyone.  We were concern at first with the game controls as they are more geared towards using the d-pad, but using the analog stick is very easy to control the character and easy to move around.  Overall even the mid bosses and level boss are challenging but not overpowered.  The market is oversaturated with shooters, Blazing Chrome stands out as a great game for both shooters fans and non.  In our special needs gaming test, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics, sound, or even controls as the game is very special needs gaming friendly.  The only thing that we saw was that some levels can get progressively harder, but when you reach these levels, most gamers will be used to the game and the gameplay style by the later levels.  Overall if you have a shooter fan in your gaming library, Blazing Chrome is a must have game in your digital library.  Now for those that are worried about the T – For Teen rating, we felt that the game did not need it as there was not enough violence in the game where it needs a Teen rating.  Our best advice is to watch video game play and be the best judge for yourself.  Also another bonus is that for those that have the Xbox One Game Pass, the game is currently part of the pass and ready for download.

Closing

With great controls, graphics, sounds and overall shooter fun, Blazing Chrome is a must have game for any fans of the Contra or Metal Slug series.
