General Gameplay

If you have ever played any of the great Call of Duty games that you will know that it is all about great story telling and great competitive multiplayer gaming.  In this latest series there is a fantastic single player campaign as well a balanced and well-done multiplayer mode.  The Game Visuals for Call of Duty Modern Warfare are one of the best in the series. The game graphics are very sharp and clean where everything has a lot of detail from the level and character design, to the backgrounds, weapons, and even down to texture for everything.   The level of detail is amazing and even seeing the cut scenes are great to see in motion. The developers took time to make sure that the level of details equals to watching a blockbuster movie.  The character has a great about of detail as well as the way the guns and assets are showcased in the game.  This is one game that you must see in motion.  As the game is rated M – For Mature, the level of violence is also showcased to show the horrors of war.  There is a colorblind mode that is available for gamers that suffer from a colorblind type and we have to say that it it is done well enough where you can see the colors in the game.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics.  Audio in Call of Duty Modern Warfare is a fantastic arrangement of great voice acting, background music, and sound that you can here in a action, shooter game. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare sounds is created to sounds like its from a motion picture movie.  Everything from the background music, sound effects (gunshots, explosions, character’s interactions, ambient noise) and other sounds are done well enough to believe that you are really in global conflict.  The game has spoken dialog done by the characters and we have to say that the game does a fantastic job of the voice acting in the game.  The game is brought to life with the voice acting and brings more tension and action to the games audio.  The game is presented in 5.1 surround sound, and the game sounds just as fine in a 2.0 stereo setting.  Even the game sounds fantastic when using a gaming headset (we recommend this if you or anyone in your gaming family wants to play multiplayer/co-op).  In our play testing we did not hear anything that would be offensive to gamers.  Again as the game is rated M – For Mature there would be nothing offensive to gamers over the age of 17 playing the game.  Controls for Modern Warfare are very easy to pick up and play for any shooter fan that has played the game series before.  The controller settings are designed around a FPS shooter style with the left thumb stick to move, right to aim, the triggers for shooting and ADS (Aim Down Sight) and the shoulder buttons for grenades and special ammo use.  The directional pad is used for switching firing modes and using special equipment.  The face buttons are for melee, jumping and other actions in the game. Overall the game controller settings are very useful and easy to play the game.  The controller settings are very responsive and easy to get used to. Both in single player and multiplayer controller settings work very well for the game.  We recommend that you use the default settings and go into the menu and adjust your thumb stick settings to your gaming style.  In our play testing, we did not run into any issues with the game controller settings and were able to play the game without any problems.

“A fantastic story that gets better as the story goes, a great multiplayer that is constantly updated as well.  This is one of the better COD games in a long time. A must play for any shooter fans out there.”

Family Friendly

Let’s just be honest, in the past decade or so, there has been a COD release that has come and gone.  There has been some great games and bad, but one of the things that has been a constant is that Call of Duty story mode is a great mode.  The story mode is like watching a Michael Bay movie with twists, turns, action moments and even the WTF moments that either makes you have your jaw on the ground in shock or just scratching your head.  This installment has a great story, so good that it will have you go back and play the game single player again.  The single player story takes place with chemical weapons falling onto the wrong hands and as part of a special unit task force.  One of the new things that comes with the single player is being careful of your weapons fire. As there is civilians in certain levels, you have to be careful on when and who you shoot. This adds more tension and dynamic in levels as you can hit someone that is not a enemy.  Also the game feels more dynamic as weapons act and shoot with more realism.  Yes COD has been a run and gun game but the developers took time to fine tune the guns to behave like the real counterparts.  Overall the single player portion of the game is better than it’s been in a long time.  The multiplayer is still with its it has been for the series.  Team death match, and other game modes are still there and there is a game type mode for any gamers out there looking for their multiplayer fix.  One of the new modes is a larger team mode where it is up to 24 players in a larger mode for those looking for a bigger team battle.  Another game mode that is new is a Special Ops mode.  This is a more of a 4 player objective base co-op where 4 players take on the computer to get objectives achieved and finish the level.  Now when we played this mode, there was a lot of times where enemies would “respawn” behind us and made some of the game very hard to play but at the time of this review this was being addressed by the developer.  If you or anyone in your gaming family loves military style of shooters, they will love Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.  Understand that this is a Rated M title, and there are points of the single player that is disturbing and honestly not meant for younger gamers to play.  Also the game has a lot of language in the single player dialog. So parents/guardians please take caution when allowing younger gamers to play the game.  Also the game is online so with any multiplayer game with online chat, be aware of what is going on with your gamer that is online.  The only thing that we had an issue with the game was that some of the later level can get harder for non shooter fans, and that the co-op games can go longer then you want to invest time into.  Outside of this, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a solid shooter.  In our special needs game testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics, sound or even controller settings.  This is a very special needs gaming friendly.
