Post Holiday Gaming And I’m Bored Of This Game Rants

Now that they holidays are come and gone, all of the gamers on our holiday list has the latest and greatest in gaming from their list what to do when they played out their favorite games?  Well we will help you navigate the “Oh I am so bored with this game now” phase.

Like all good beginnings there are great endings, and games also have this process.  A good game will start off with a great beginning, story, telling of the said story, then the final act of the story.  Some games will have DLC (We will get to this in a minute) that will come out, other games will have post ending content to do in the game. Some games that offer a multiplay component that continues the game on a online level, but what do you do with that gamer that is already bored with that game?  Well here are some suggestions that you can do to help with this.

  1. Trade in the game. Now this only works on physical copies of games.  (At this time digital games cannot be traded in).  Keep in mind by doing this that most places only at best offer ½ credit or less for a trade in towards a new or used game so keep this in mind when going to a local retainer to trade in a game.  Now this can work if they got a game for the holidays that they already played and beat and not want anymore.  If you are planning to trade in a game, be sure to delete the local data off the console and back up any saves onto the cloud.  This way in case if they want to pickup the game on a later time, they still have their save data to continue where they left off.  Also look at retails that take trade in for any trade in deals so you can take advantage of this with them.
  2. Trade the game with a friend/family member. Sometimes a gamer may get a game that they either did not like or not play, so sometimes trading the game with another is simpler where both parties get the game that they want to play.  With younger gamers be sure that both parents/guardians are ok with this and that the trade is fair with both parties.
  3. Play the game on a harder difficulty. Sometimes we play and beat a game on a easier setting, so by beating the game, most gamers feel that there is nothing more to do.  Well give that gamer a challenge, play the game on a harder setting.  You will be surprised on how a harder setting changes the game dynamics.  All of a sudden a easy boss is a lot more harder to beat, and nothing feel good then beating a level and knowing that you did it on a harder setting.  This challenges the gamer to do better, think more and be more analytical in their approach to the game and its dynamics. Also, as Xbox and PlayStation have achievement that they track, it can be added to your achievement/trophies profile that you beat the game on a harder level.
  4. Keep the game for future DLC down the road. Some games and developers have post release content that they were not able to have for the game at launch and they over the year will release it to extend the game and gameplay.  Now this is not the case for every game so you will have to check the developer/publisher’s site or social media feed to see if there will be DLC.  When in doubt, ask as most will be happy to answer this for you.
  5. Let another gamer play the game. At times gamers are in a rush to play, and beat a game, I too am guilty of this.  So if a game is that good, share the experience with another gamer in your family.  At times gamers are afraid to leave their wheelhouse and play another type of game, so what better way to show a great game you played, beat and letting dust collect on is to share the experience with a fellow gamer.  Sometimes a game that they would normally will not play may turn them to play another type of game.  This is a great way to introduce them to a new game and you can walk them through the beginning parts of the game and get them more familiar with the game and share the experience with them.
  6. Stream yourself playing the game. Believe it or not game streaming services are up and coming, where almost %61 of gamers are using a streaming service to showcase their achievements in a game from taking down a harder boss/level to something funny that happen in a game.  If you are really good and mastered the game, then start a live Twitch/Mixer stream and showcase your awesomeness of your gameplay skills.  A lot of times you will be surprised on how much engagement you get from the community.  You may even became a “gaming star” and get a following on the game. You may even get the attention from the developers on the game itself.
  7. When all else fails, just keep the game. Some games like fine wine get better over time.  Some games that have been already been finished may be a game that you may go back to later. A lot of single player games have some appeal as the game story was great enough that you may want to go back to it later.  Lots of times people upload videos of a funny moment or glitch in the game and you may have the inkling to go and recreate the same thing yourself.  Not all games may be like this but if you really like the game and don’t want to get ½ of the value back that you invested into it, it is best to just keep it and enjoy it on a down night when you have nothing to play.  You will be surprised how an older game being replayed reminds you on how much you really loved the game in the first place.

We hope that these ideas will help you and those gamers in your life that get bored with a game to have options when it comes to a game that they are done with. Remember be sure to check all of your options before you go in the next direction of your gaming journey.
