In I Hate Running Backwards, you guessed it you are running backwards fighting enemies in this top down shooter.  The whole game premise is to avoid getting killed by the enemies that are rushing you and make it to the next portal where a boss fight is waiting for you.  The game features characters from the Serious Sam, Hotline Miami, Enter the Gungeon, Nuclear Throne, and Shadow Warrior universes.  This game too also has permadeath but before you go running out to the streets screaming bloody murder, it actually works in this game, making it more of an enjoyable experience, did we also mention that the game also has a co-op and available on all major platforms, including the Nintendo Switch?
