Mass Effect Legendary Edition

A remaster of the Mass Effect collection now available with 4K updated graphics, and gameplay improvements to the award-winning series.  The collection includes all 3 of the games plus all of the DLC that came with the games.

General Gameplay

The Mass Effect series is a story of commander Sheppard and his/her adventures to stop a alien invasion of the system and how his/her crew goes about stopping the invasion.  The game story involves from each choice and the reactions from each decision that is made in the game that follows onto other games.

The Mass Effect series is one of the most celebrated series in gaming as involving an complex and rewarding storyline with great voice acting that brings the story to life.  In this massive game, every choice that you makes, effects the outcome of the story down to relationships that you have with different characters.  The Legendary Edition is remaster collections that is upscale in 4K that takes advantage of the newer monitors and gaming setup.  The game from the series that takes the most advantage of this is the original game from the series.  Overall this is a great series for gamers that love story driven, 3rd person shooters that are heavy influenced in a RPG environment.  The Game Visuals are a great improvement from the previous releases on the Xbox 360/PS3.  All three games look fantastic in 4K running at 60 FPS.  Even with those that do not have a 4K monitor can appreciate the graphics and presentation.  The game colors, graphics, backgrounds, and other elements look fantastic on screen.  Everything has a great detail to them down to the character animation.  Mass Effect does a great job of showcasing the story in this manner.  The game does not support a colorblind mode, however it is not needed as the game graphics are clean and easy to see on the screen. As the game is a remastered of the series, the graphic looks a lot better now then they did when it was first released back 15 years ago.  The game also does a great job on fast paced action where the animation is very smooth and easy to follow and see on the screen without any trouble.  As the game is rated M for Mature outside of the adult situation that is in the game as well as graphic sci-fi violence there was nothing else that would be offensive to older gamers or gamers over the age of 16.  Audio in Mass Effect Series is also done very well.  As with the original series, the audio in the game is done with a touch of telling a story and showcasing the game in a setting that is fun and easy to hear.  As the game is a shooter, everything from the sound effects of weapons fire, background banter of characters, music and everything else is done very well.  Where the game shines is the in game spoken audio.  With a fantastic cast of audio actors, the game comes to life when they are speaking.  Each characters has their own unique persona to them and they feel alive in the game.  This is what made the series shine and become an instant classic with most gamers.  The game is presented in 5.1 surround sound as well in 2.0 stereo sound and in either environment the game shines.  As the game is a mature rated game, there is a lot of mature language, however it is done more to tell the story and bring more character to the actors then for shock value.  So we feel that the game audio is good enough for gamers to hear for older gamers as well gamers that are over the age of 16.  Controls in the game are very well done.  As the game is both story driven as well as combat driven, the game controls are very tight and very responsive in game.  Depending on your setup the controller settings are very easy to change to your style of gameplay and easy to use in the game.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game controller settings or controls in game.

“Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a great collection of the 3 of the best games in the series.  With a fantastic story, great game play and controls, this is a must have game in your digital library and should not be missed.

Family Friendly

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a collection of the three best games from the series, hands down.  There are so many things that make this a great collection to own.  Even for those gamers that have already played the games before, there is a good reason why to purchase this remastered collection and go back to this universe.  The game does a great job of showcasing the graphics in the game and as the game already looked great on screen, it looks even better in 4K.  Everything in the game visuals brings the game to life and makes it feel more like a movie series more than a game.  The games action scenes as well as cut scenes between characters are such a joy to see on the screen and the updated graphics make this game looks and feel even better.  This is one of those games that just has to be experienced when in motion.  The updated audio for all three games makes a vast improvement with the addition of 5.1 surround sound and makes the sound pop even more.  For those that have played the series before, the game shines with the in game spoken dialog.  All of the characters have a personality to them and this brings the game more to life when both in game or even getting involved in relationships with the characters.  All of the sound effects, background music and every audio elements bring the game front stage and make it a pure joy to play.  As the game before all of the actors do a fantastic job of bringing life to the story.  As the story is a gem, in this turn EA and BioWare included all of the DLC into this collection, adding even more gameplay to the series which is a big plus for those that may not have played the add ones on their first play through.  The only DLC that is not in Mass Effect Legendary Edition is for Mass Effect 3 co-op portion, at the time of the release, the developers did not include this, however this is something that does not take away from the series or this collection, so for those that are planning to play this with other gamers, keep this in mind before purchase.  Outside of this exclusion, there were some graphical elements that were taken out, altered for the release.  As these are not that noticeable, there are some parts of the game series where you will notice it but not by much.  As the game is famous for how you can go into different directions with getting a relationship with different characters in the series, this is still in the game and however you wish to play the game, you can still go after who you want to have a relationship with.  This is where we are happy that they left this into the game and adds more character and versatility on how you want to play the game.  Of the three games, the first game is where you will notice the major changes to the game graphics and upgrades.  The controller settings are more updated for more modern controllers and easier to control both the ship, and characters movements.  Overall this is great remaster and we highly recommend picking this up, no matter if you played the series or not, Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a game that deserves a spot in your digital library.  In our special needs game testing, outside of the Mature content, there was nothing that would impede any gameplay for any gamers, if anything the game is very special needs gaming friendly.  Overall this a great game and series and should not be missed for any gamer.
