Birthday of Midnight

In this golf like action game, you must help your favorite fairy navigate through 70 challenging levels of getting pass spikes, flames, circular saws, and other obstacles to get to the goal.  The challenge is to do this with the least amount of shots to get to the goal.  Birthday of Midnight is another game from the Midnight series.

General Gameplay

Gameplay is all about playing golf, well action golf, by avoiding traps on the way to get to the goal on each level.  Each level grades you from 3-1 stars based on how well you can get the fairy to the goal.  If you have played any of the other Midnight series games, you will be right at home with Birthday of Midnight.  The Game Visuals are done in a darker tone, using lots of blues, blacks, and other cooler colors to showcase the game. As the game does not offer a colorblind mode, it is not needed as the colors are easy to see during game play. All the graphics are easy to see from the main character, to objects in the level and the background.  The game is designed to be as simplistic as possible so you can concentrate on getting to the goal.  The game is quite easy to see in motion and the colors work well for Birthday of Midnight.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics if anything the game is very family friendly in its visual design.  Audio in Birthday of Midnight is a blend of soft piano that plays in the background.  The game piano soundtrack is a very mellow and smooth sound that fits well with the game.  There are some sound effects but the piano soundtrack takes priority in the game.  Birth of Midnight does not have spoken dialog and all the story, hints and other ques are shown via text.  The game is presented in 5.1 surround sound as well as 2.0 stereo sound.  Either setting is fine for the game as the mellow soundtrack is perfect for those that game with a gaming headset or use their speakers.  In our play testing we did not hear anything that would be offensive to younger gamers as the game is very family friendly.  Controls in Birthday of Midnight are amazingly simple to use.  As the game is an action golf style of game, the left thumb stick is to aim the fairy and the controller button to launch the fairy in the direction in which you want the fairy to go.  The stick is sensitive in how much force you want to use to launch the fairy to the goal.  There is also another controller button to reset the level and try again in case you fail.  The game controller design is very user and gaming friendly where it is easy enough for anyone to pick up and play.  In our play testing we did not encounter any issues with the game controller settings and found it to be very special needs gaming friendly.  As the game is on the console, there is no need for a special controller to be used for Birthday of Midnight.

“A fantastic follow up to the Midnight game series, with fun easy and unique challenges.  A great casual game for any fans of the series or just looking for a relaxing golf like action casual game”

Family Friendly

On thing that is a good thing is that when it comes to the Midnight series of games, that they keep the consistency of the games in tack.  From the level design, to the look and feel, gameplay, and controls and this is a good thing. Birthday of Midnight is no different.  Everything is what you would expect from the series.  From the casual action golf gameplay to easy to harder levels, forgiving gameplay and a great piano soundtrack.  What makes this a great game is that anyone can pick up and play the game without any trouble and this is a great thing for the gaming family.  The nature of the game makes it easy to play and as the objective for all of the levels are just getting the Fairy into the goal is simple enough, anyone can play Birthday of Midnight and still get enjoyment from it.  Also, the game is a very casual game to have in your digital library for those days where you just want to chill for the night and play a relaxing game.  The piano soundtrack is relaxing and a true joy to hear during the game.  Gameplay is not to hard and is very easy to play and as you get more used to the game play mechanics you will get more challenging levels to play but as the difficulty is forgiving it is very simple to finish each level.  Controls are simple enough where it mimics a smart phone game where it is about aiming, the strength of your shot and release.  When the developers made this series and this game, it is all about simple gameplay and this is where this game shines.  The only complaint that we have is that we wished that there was DLC to get more levels, yes 70 levels is a lot, but once you start playing through the levels it can go quick.  Outside of this, Birthday of Midnight is a great overall game and family game to have for your digital library.  In our special needs game testing, we did not run into any issues with the game visuals, audio, or the controller setting.  The game is very special needs gaming friendly.

Closing

Birthday of Midnight is a fun, simple and great action golf game that is fun for all ages.  With simple game play, controls, and fun levels, this is a must have for any action golf fans and a great family game to have for your digital library.
