2019 and the world of gaming.

As we said our happy goodbyes to 2018 and the world of gaming.  There were some beautiful games that came out in 2018.  So many from triple A developers to a lot of indie titles that make a staple into the world of gaming and showed why independent developers are the future of the gaming industry.  From fresh ideas to the storytelling that is offered from an indie developer is one of many reasons why that we here at Family Gamer Review are looking forward to 2019.

One of the many surprises that came out in 2018 was the overwhelming support of 3rd party and indie developers for the Nintendo Switch.  As the Nintendo Switch sales continue to grow, it is showing that it is the place for indie developers to go to release their games or even do a fresh reboot of an older title that was already released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.  This opened the doors for gamers that never got a chance to play one of these gems on the console to play it on the Switch which in turn helps developers bring out more great games onto the consoles.  I personally was happy to see that developers were taking chances on the Nintendo Switch and bring out their visions on there.  Also seeing more PlayStation 4 indie games coming onto the Xbox One was also a great move as it game Xbox One gamers a better opportunity to play some of these great titles.

One of the many things that we would love to see from developers is more support and titles for VR.  The PlayStation VR is a great system but one of the many things hurting it is the lack of a breakout game that will make people go and get a VR.  We here at the office got a chance to try out a lot of games on the PSVR and love it but as games are far and infrequent in its release schedule it makes it feel for those that have invested into the PSVR left out.  We are hoping that Sony and indie developers put more great titles onto the PSVR.  Another 2019 wish list item that we would love to see is more indie games released on all consoles from the PC, to Xbox One, and Switch.  Now I understand that developers want to go with the release on just one console but having their game released on multiple consoles allows them to reach a broader audience and able to get more sales.  Again, we understand that they may have just developed their game on just one dev kit but imagine having their game on multiple consoles on launch, this is only a wish list but still something that can be more in 2019.  Another wish list item that we would love to see from indie and AAA developers is a colorblind mode.  As most male games have some type of colorblindness, having a colorblind mode will help gamers enjoy the game even more and able to experience all of the colors that they are able to see.  EA already does this with lots of their titles where they offer different types of color sets and we would love to see more developers do this as well.

So as 2019 is starting and games are getting onto the released schedule, we are optimistic of 2019 being another great year for indie developers and gamers alike.
