Waifu Uncovered

In this space shooter, you must take on aliens from taking over the world and advantage of eight maidens by shooting off their clothing infected by a virus.  In this mature shooter it is all about quick reflexes and fighting a boss battle at the end of the level.

AS THE GAME IS RATED M – FOR MATURE. WE ONLY TESTED THIS TITLE WITH GAMERS THAT ARE OVER THE AGE OF 17 – THIS GAME CONTAINS NUDITY.

General Gameplay

In this shooter, you are tasked to save the earth from evil aliens that infected the clothing of 8 maidens and your task is to destroy the virus from their clothing and save the world.  Waifu Uncovered is a top down shooter with a mature theme to the game element.  The Game Visuals are very colorful and very bright and vivid with graphics showcasing the action on the screen.  The game has a picture of one of the female characters in the background and as you are fighting enemies.  All the graphics are very detail from your ship, to enemies and the female character in the game. In the gameplay everything is very easy to see on the screen and easy to play on the Nintendo Switch screen.  As the game is very colorful there is no colorblind mode, however the game colors are bright enough to see on the screen.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics (expect for the nudity in the game, we will cover this more in the Family Friendly section of the review). Audio in Waifu Uncovered is a mixture of Japanese anime style of music.  The game has the standard sounds that you would expect to hear from a shooter, from weapons fire, to bombs exploding and enemies’ ships and bosses sound effects.  The game does a great job making the sounds feel like a traditional shooter.  There is some spoken dialog but mostly the girls talking in small talk. If anything the game dialog is told by text on the screen and there is some strong language in the text. The game presented in 2.0 stereo and we recommend to play the game with a set of gaming headset to best experience the sound from the game.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any problems with the audio in Waifu Uncovered. Controls in Waifu Uncovered are very simple to use.  You control the ship with the left thumb stick and there is a button for weapons fire and another for your bomb.  The game controller settings are well done and very easy to pick up and play the game.  As you play through the game you can unlock an “one finger mode” where you can control the game with one finger by touching the screen with ease.  This setting is great for those that do not want to use many button settings and just have a casual experience.  The controller response is amazingly fast and great for a shooter like this.  As the game is a console game, you can use the standard Joy Conns to play the game or even a pro controller.  We recommend for those playing on the Nintendo Switch to use the Joy Conns and when playing the game on a larger TV set to use a pro controller for a better experience.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any problems with the game controller settings.

“As the game is a Mature game, there is a solid shooter in this game.  For shooter fans this is a game that should not miss”

Family Friendly

For many years the Nintendo console catalog was designed more towards family games and gaming. As Nintendo over the years they started to bring more mature games to the later consoles to capture a older audience.  Games like Mortal Kombat and other M rated titles started to come to the console and when we received a review code for Waifu Uncovered we were a little surprised that a game that had a lot of nudity as a part of the game.  Now do not let this be a reason why you should not get this game, if anything there is a very solid shooter in this game.  The game does a great job of having a challenging shooter in the game.  All aspects of what makes a good shooter are here.  From challenging levels, to boss battles and satisfying gameplay are all here.  Waifu Uncovered is not to easy or hard but a good balance for a shooter to be able to be played by all skill levels.  The game does get progressively harder in later levels but it is all about learning how the game is played and when to use your special weapons and how to approach each level when it comes to boss battles.  Power up from shields to speed up for your ship are throughout the level as well weapon power ups.  There are also power downs that you must avoid as well.  There are a lot of enemies on screen so at points it can become a bullet hell style of shooter.  If anything, it is all about knowing when to attack the right parts of the clothing to get further into the level and get to the boss battles.  There are stars that must be collected to get to the next part of the clothing to be successful.  The boss battles are challenging and fun when playing.  Now that the game does contain a lot of nudity in the game, this may be a turn off to some gamers, but realize that this is a mature game and aimed towards gamers that are mature to play the game.  We highly recommend that this game to be played by gamers over the age of 17.  For those gamers that have younger gamers around, we recommend playing the game in the mobile Switch more than on a larger TV so you can enjoy the game in more private settings.  Overall Waifu Uncovered is a fun game to play for those that are shooter fans, but as we said in this review before this is a more for a mature audience to play the game.  The only complaint that we had and it’s a minor one that the game can get harder for non shooter fans but this is a minor complaint.  In our special needs game testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game visuals, audio or controls, the game is very special needs gaming friendly, again only for mature gamers to play 😊

Closing

Waifu Uncovered is a unique shooter where you are shooter aliens that are attaching themselves to clothing, but under all the anime nudity there is a solid shooter. A great mature game for any shooter fans or looking for a good shooter for the Nintendo Switch.
