Super Mega Space Blaster Special Turbo

A space-based shooter where you have to protect your mother ship from attack and survival mode to survive.

General Gameplay

The game is a 2D space shooter where up to two players locally can play in a co-op mode or in a player vs. player mode. It is all about fast paced shooting enemies and other space-based items and surviving.  The Game Visuals are drawn in a very detail and colorful way to see the game graphics.  The main ships, enemies, and backgrounds are drawn and vivid in the design, if anything the game graphics are designed to be more family friendly in its design.  The colors are more in the mid ranges with lots of blues, greens and other bright colors.  The game does not have a colorblind mode; however, the game colors are very easy to see on the screen.  The only time we had a problem seeing the game visuals was in the mobile mode on the Nintendo Switch version, however if you play the game in the docked mode it is fine.  In our playtesting of the game, we did not encounter anything that would be offensive to younger gamers, the game is very family friendly.  Audio in Super Mega Space Blaster Special Turbo is remarkably simple but still enjoyable.  The music arrangement is in a 80’s inspired synth pop style where it matches the style of gameplay.  As you would expect from a space shooter the standard sound effects like laser blasts, asteroids smashing and enemy ships flying and firing their weapons.  The game is presented in 5.1 surround sound and in 2.0 stereo sound, either sound mode is great to hear the game. In our playtesting we did not hear anything offensive in the game’s audio and sound effects, again this is a very family friendly game.  Controls in the game are a little hard to get use to but once you start playing more of the game then it gets easier. The left and right triggers accelerate and brake the ship movement where the shoulder buttons are used to fire the weapons.  The face buttons are used for the special power ups that you will obtain in playing in different modes. Again, as a shooter the controller setting are designed to make sur that you can play the game the way it was meant to be played.  In our playtesting we did not run into any issues with the game controller settings. As the game was designed for the consoles the game does not need a special controller to play the game, and you can use your standard controller to play the game.

“A simple but fun game to play, Super Mega Space Blaster Special Turbo is an old school shooter style like the Asteroids series. Lots of ships and different makes this a game for the family to play”

Family Friendly

As with shooters out there have a formula of balance with its game to be successful, great graphics, fast paced action and lots of different types of power ups, from ships, to weapons and so forth, this is where Super Mega Space Blaster Special Turbo gets it right.  The game for being a small game has a lot of features to it. From a co-op for another player to play with you, to a base protect mode and a survival mode. All modes are fun to play and easy to get into, challenging but still fun. However, there is only so much gaming that you can do. Super Mega Space Blaster Turbo even with its dept with power ups and ships that you can purchase has its limitations when it comes to the most important part of the game, the game itself. Now if you are in the market for a simple but fun for the family space shooter then this is the game to get, however for those that are looking for more dept in a shooter they may be disappointed. One thing that was a joy for the gamers that game tested and reviewed this game was the 80’s synth pop music for the game. Eletric Fan Death did a great job for the game soundtrack and it is worth listening to. Overall Super Mega Space Blaster Turbo is a good shooter for non-shooter fans but those that are more hardcore shooters fans may not like the limitations to the game. The only complaint that we had during the game review was that there were more levels variations, but this is a very minor oversight to a shooter. In our special needs gaming testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics, audio, or controls. If anything, Super Mega Space Blaster Turbo is very special needs gaming friendly.

Closing

Overall Super Mega Space Blaster Space Turbo is a fun shooter for those looking to play an easy but not punishing shooter. With different game modes and co-op, this is a great family game to have in your digital library.
