Super Destronaut: Land Wars

A simple but fun first-person arena style shooter where to see how far you can get from level to level in Super Destronaut: Land Wars.

General Gameplay

Super Destronaut: Land Wars at its core gameplay is a simple, easy to pick up and play arena shooter where you shoot enemies, collect the coins, purchase weapons and power ups and keep going, in essence a classic shooter.  The Game Visuals are created in a bright, visual stylish voxel way where everything is very bright and vivid.  The characters, background, enemies, and environment are drawn in an 8-bit style where there are easy to see and visualize what is what in the game.  This is a more of an arena style shooter, so the background level is the same so outside of this, there is no different variations of the background.  As the colors of the game are bright and vibrant, there is no need for a colorblind mode, so for those that are affected by a colorblind type should not have a problem playing the game.  In our play testing, we did not run into any issues with the game visuals.  Audio in Super Destronaut: Land Wars is a simple but catchy audio track that plays during the game.  The audio track is simple but fits into the gameplay.  You have the sound effects from weapons fire, to defeated enemies, all the basic sounds that would be in a game like this.  There is no spoken audio dialog, so it is all about the music in the game with the sound effects that accompany the game.  The game is presented in 5.1 surround sound and in 2.0 stereo sound and it sounds fine in either environment.  In our play testing we did not encounter any issues with the game audio.  Controls are remarkably simple to play Super Destronaut: Land Wars.  The left thumb stick controls the movement, where the right one is to use to aim.  There is a button for jumping and another one to select on the upgrades board.  The controller setting is perfect for a game like this as it is a first-person shooter.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game controller settings or even controlling the game.  The game is quite easy to pick up and play for any of your gaming family.  As the game is on the console, there is no need for a special controller to play the game.  The standard controller that comes with your console is fine to play the game.

“A simple but fun first-person shooter for those that are still new to shooters. With over 30 different challenges and simple gameplay, Super Destronaut: Land Wars is a great shooter game for non-shooter fans.  However seasoned veteran shooter fans may find the game a little too easy.”

Family Friendly

One of the things that makes Super Destronaut: Land Wars a fun and easily approachable game is how simple the game is.  Now before you say that this is an “walking shooter simulator” look at it from this point of view.  For some FPS (First Person Shooters) are ridiculously hard for some older and newer gamers to get into, and this game is the best type of shooter for them to start off with.  The game has all the basics of how a shooter is designed.  From how to control both thumb sticks for movement and aiming to different buttons that do different things like jumping, reloading, picking up objects, interaction and so forth.  So, the game is a great introduction to anyone that has never played a FPS.  Now another thing that makes this a fun family game is that the challenges.  The challenges in the game, 30 of them in fact are fun and easy to complete, this adds more life to the game and more challenge for gamers to try to achieve the best score or the fastest time for certain levels.  This makes the game a great game for family members in your gaming family to try to see who can get the fast time or best score on a specific challenge.  The game over itself is not to hard to get into as it is an arena shooter, so newer gamers will have much more an easier time getting into the game.  The controls for the game are also designed to be user friendly and easy to use, so for younger gamers that are new to shooters, this also makes it a great game to have.  Now those are more seasoned FPS shooter gamers will see this game as being simpler to their gaming taste but even for those gamers, this is still fun, easy game to play to kill some time.  The only complain that we had about Super Destronaut: Land Wars is that there should have been more levels and more challenges to extend more gameplay, but this was a minor complaint and does not hamper with the game itself.  In our special needs game testing, we did not run into any issues with the game visuals, audio or even controls, the game itself is very special needs gaming friendly.
