Pizza Time Ultra

Ever wanted to deliver pizza around town in a 10 story mech? Well here is your chance in this 3rd person action platformer.  Become the new delivery person and use this mech to deliver pizzas to customers in a timely fashion, as well collect ingredients, extra time, and money around the level, while fighting off the enemy that wants to stop you.

General Gameplay

Overall the game is all about going around the level with a timer to deliver pizzas to customers while trying to avoid the enemy and not destroying the building and houses around you.  As you deliver pizzas to the customers, you get cash and more time added to your score.  The money earned allows you to purchase new upgrades, levels, paint jobs and other accessories for your mech.   The Game Visuals are very vivid in its design where the characters and background objects are very fluid and animated when presented on screen. Everything in the game is very easily seen without any trouble on a small screen. The game color pallet uses bright reds, blues, greens, yellows like a Saturday morning anime.  The game does not have a colorblind mode; however, it is not needed as the colors are bright enough to see on the screen.  If anything, the game is very fluid when playing and the action is easy to follow in the game.  Outside of some smoking from some characters, there was nothing offensive in the game for younger gamers to see.   Audio in Pizza Time Ultra is very fun to hear.  There is some spoken dialog in the game but the game shines in its background music and sound effects.  The game is very animated in its sound presentation, again like watching a Japanese anime.  Everything in the game has a sound effect from the jets of the mech to enemies attacking, building being destroyed and other sound effects.  The background music matches the level design and fits well for the game.  As the main characters do not speak but more like cartoon gibberish, there is a game announcer that gives you audio cues when pizzas are delivered and other game objectives.  The game is presented in 5.1 surround sound but also can easily be heard in 2.0 stereo mode for gamers that use a gaming headset.  In our playtesting, we did not hear anything that would be offensive for any younger gamers.  Controls for Pizza Time Ultra are very simple to use.  The thumb stick moves the mech around, there is a jump button, as well a button to use your mech special ability and a roll that your mech can do.  The controller layout is designed to make the game easy for any gamers to control the mech and move around in the game.  In our playtesting we did not run into any issues with the game default controller settings.  The game was very easy to control with the standard controller.  As the game does not need a special controller, the standard controller that you use should be fine to use in the game.

“What makes this game fun is that you are in a 10 story mech delivering pizzas to customers, some that are iconic in both pop and video game culture. With easy controls, and gameplay, Pizza Time Ultra is a great game for your digital library.”

Family Friendly

I will be honest with you, when we first saw the game, we had our doubts about it.  Again, who would want to deliver pizzas in a mech? Boy where we wrong! Anyone that loved the Crazy Taxi series or game like that will feel right at home.  What makes the game fun is that it does not take itself seriously.  The game is about trying to get from one delivery point to another and how fast can you do it.  Also, in each level there are special ingredients that you can find to help your overall score.  There are mini games where you must place the ingredients onto the pizza also bake the pizza, this too also adds a dynamic to the gameplay.  As you go through the levels, you can collect more money, time, and do special objectives for your client, this can range from taking out enemies, to destroying building and other things that make each level interesting to play.  Another thing that made this game fun is the references to the special customers being a pun of both video game culture as well pop culture, this made it fun as the placement and special objectives that you must do is more interesting.  The game also can take the funds that you collect and customize your mech, from the paint to parts and special abilities.  This makes it more dynamic for gamers and their specific playstyle. Overall Pizza Time Ultra is a fun game for all ages to play.  In our special needs game testing, we did not encounter any issues with the game graphics, audio or even controls, the game is very special needs friendly.
