Omega Strike

With Dr. Omega and his mutant armies are on the loose, it is up to you the Sarge and your allies to fight off Dr. Omega and save the day.

General Gameplay

Omega Strike is a Metroidvania open world 2D action shooter where you can switch from three different characters that have their own special abilities and weapons to use during gameplay to reach new locations on the map or use their special abilities and weapons.  The Game Visuals are presented in 16-bit visuals to showcase the game.  All the characters, enemies, backgrounds, and bosses are drawn in this style to give a retro feel to the game.   Omega Strike is quite easy to see on the screen and very colorful.  The game does not support a colorblind mode, and it is not needed as the games colors and graphics are easy to see while in game.  The graphics are designed in detail to showcase all the action going on in the game from enemy design to each of the main characters and even bosses.  In our play testing, we did not run into any issues with the game graphics.  Audio in Omega Strike is well done.  Each level background music is different to give a unique feel to the different zones in the game.  The game sound effects from weapons fire, to enemies, explosions and the banter of the characters talking is well done and easy to hear. Omega Strike does not have any spoken dialog to hear as it is text based when the characters are talking.  The game is presented in 5.1 surround sound as well in 2.0 stereo sound as well.  In our play testing we did not hear anything that would be offensive to younger gamers. Controls in Omega Strike are easy to use and pick up and play.  The controller settings are designed for a 2D shooter.  The left thumb stick and directional pad controls the character and the face buttons are used to jump, shoot, special and switch characters.  The controller setup is very user friendly and easy enough for non-shooter fans to pick up and play the game.  When playing the game, the controller setup was very responsive and made the game easier to control.  In our play testing we did not run into any issues playing the game with the default controller settings.  As the game is a shooter in its nature, we recommend using a controller for PC gamers and the standard controller for your console is fine to use as a special controller is not needed to play the game.

“Omega Strike is a great Metroidvania style action game. Great in game soundtrack. lots of different enemies, levels and bosses makes this a great game as well as the ability to swap from three different characters makes it very versatile in its gameplay.”

Family Friendly

On of the many things that makes Omega Strike a fun game is that how approachable the game is for shooters and non-shoots alike to be able to pick up and play the game. There are so many things that Omega Strike did right.  The gameplay is easy to get into.  The action platforming is easy to preform and that the characters which is fun to play with.  Switching on the fly is really well done and all of the three characters have their strengths and weaknesses but once you start to play more into the game you have a better understanding on who to use for what areas of the game.  Each area of the levels in the game have their own set of enemies, bosses, music, and different look and feel to them making them unique in the gameplay.  One level take place in a forest area where the next is a military base and so forth.  This is where the game feels more like a Metroidvania style where you must explore the areas and find paths to the boss and other secret locations in the level.  Most if all boss battles are easy and it is all about studying patterns of the boss movement and weapon fire to defeat them.  Once they are defeated then you obtain a new ability for one of the three characters that allow you to revisit areas once inaccessible before.  This adds more replay value to go back and revisit areas that were not accessible and now you can continue in those areas to find more items and hidden treasure chest.  The soundtrack of the game is created by Ken Snyder (aka Coda of Scarlet Moon Production) and we have to say that the game soundtrack is fantastic and just a joy to listen to in the gameplay.  The soundtrack is unique in each area and gives more life to the levels, if anything it is like a throwback to games like Megaman, and Metroid from the NES days.  The game offers over 5 different areas to explore, 12 boss battles and over 45 different enemy types to fight throughout the game, so there is a lot of gaming to be done in Omega Strike.  Overall Omega Strike is a fun game for any gamers in your gaming family that love action shooters or even Metroidvania style of games.  The only complaint that we had was that parts of the game where once you obtained a new power up or upgrade that you had to backtrack to a certain part of the map to continue. We wish that there were a way on the map to mark points of interest so you can better refer to them later in the game.  This was a minor issue and does not interfere with the general gameplay.  In our special needs game testing, we did not run into any issues with the game visuals, audio or even graphics, Omega Strike is a very special needs gaming friendly for all ages.
