Jack N Jill DX

Jack N’ Jill DX is an old school platformer in which you have to reach Jill by overcoming obstacles and collecting coins to purchase new hats, colors for the screen and other minigames to earn tickets.

General Gameplay

The game is an homage to old school platformers that you would have seen or even played back in the game.  Bearing a resemblance to a Gameboy Advance game the game is all about platforming from one spot to another collecting coins, and avoiding enemies, obstacles and other things that will get in the way.  The Game Visuals are very Gameboy advance in its design, now this is on purpose by the developer.  So, the graphics are very sharp but still have their unique handheld design.  Everything can be seen in the game from the characters, enemies, backgrounds and items.  The color is more slated in a black and white style but with more colors, now the interesting thing is that you can change the general color of the game in the options where you can purchase add-ons for the game.  In our playtesting we did not run into any issues with the game graphics or content, if anything people loved the graphic style of the old age.  The Audio for the game is done in a Gameboy Advance style of arrangement.  With the midi style of sounds that you would hear from the character jumping, coins being collected, and other sound effect that you would hear from a game like this.  Also, the music arrangement is very nostalgic in its design.  There is no spoken audio dialog so there is no voice at all in the Jack N’ Jill.  In our playthrough we did not hear anything offensive in the game what so ever.  The game is surprisingly in 5.1 surround sound; however, it is not needed as the game has more of a retro feel to it.  The Controls are very easy.  There is just one button that is used in the gameplay which is to jump.  There is no controller stick movement, the only time that the controller thumb stick is used is for the menu.  The game button just is used for jumping in the game, the character movement is automatically controlled in the game.  So, in essence the game can be played by anyone as long they are following the action on the screen they should be all good.  In our playtesting, no one in our groups had any trouble with the controls of the game, the only issue was the timing but that was more to the gamer skill level vs. the game itself.  The game does not need any special type of controller so using the standard controller is fine.

“Take an old school platformer style, give it easy controls and lots of levels, game play value and you have a great game in Jack N’ Jill DX”

Family Friendly

I have to say that during the testing of Jack N’ Jill DX that everyone had a great time playing the game.  From our older gamers to younger gamers loved how simple the game and gameplay is.  The game is a joy to play and how the graphics are so simple in its form but still fun to look at.  The graphic style if a throwback to the days of old. Also as the controls are so simple that anyone can pick up and play the game.  The only complaint that we got from playtesting was that for some platformer gamers that the game was to simple, this was not true as later levels (the game boast 120 in game levels and multiple challenges) can get a little challenging.  Now as we said before, the game is very simple but fun in its design, so this is for more casual gamers.  Or even a relaxing game to play in between games just to have fun.  However, we would not recommend the game to any hardcore platformer gamers in your gaming family as they will find the game too easy to play.  Overall, we highly recommend the game to be in your digital library.  The cost of the game alone is very manageable and honestly this is a great, fun game.  In our special needs game testing, we did not encounter any issue with the game graphics, audio, control or overall gameplay.  We feel that the game is appropriate for all ages.

Closing

Jack N’ Jill DX is a fun, family friendly game that is a must have for casual platformers gamers in your gaming family.  Some more hardcore platformer gamers may find the game to easy but overall a great game to own.
