AS THE GAME IS RATED M – FOR MATURE, ONLY OLDER GAME TESTERS REVIEWED THE GAME

General Gameplay

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster is the single player remastered in 4K, updated sound and game play from the 2009 blockbuster game that was on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.  The game is the story mode about stopping global terrorist from starting a way with the USA and Russia.  As Task Force 141 you must stop this from happening.  The Game Visuals are simply amazing in 4K.  Everything got an overhaul from the graphics, character animation, background, gun details and everything else.  The game is still the same from 2009 but they look so much better in this remaster.  The game characters alone are worth the play through of the game.  Even for those that do not game on a 4K or in HDR mode, this is still worth the pickup just to go through the game again.  Everything is in detail and looks so much sharper in this remaster.  The game offers a colorblind mode and its works well for gamers that suffer from a colorblind disorder, the colorblind modes makes the game more approachable for gamers and this is a big plus for gaming.  As the game is rated M – For Mature there is a lot of war like violence, but the same that you would have seen from the original game.  There is no nudity or anything offensive to gamers (outside of one mission that you can skip) as this is a more like a AAA Blockbuster movie style of presentation.  In our playtesting, outside of one mission that is skippable there was nothing offensive to gamers to see outside of war violence.  Again, as the game is a military shooter, so there will be scenes of war like violence that will be throughout the game.  Audio in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is top notch.  Everything from the original game from the character dialog, gunfire, background music, ambient sounds, and everything else that made this a great game is still there but more enhanced.  The game sounds so much better than from 2009 (which is a lot to say!) Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is presented in 5.1 surround sound as well 2.0 stereo, and either way you play the game it sounds fantastic.  As with any shooter story-based game you will hear character dialog with the type of spoken language that you would expect with curse words in the character lines.  The language is used to help better tell the story and not overused.  The game is presented like a movie and the dialog matches this type of dialog in the game.  In our play testing, outside of the language, we did not hear anything that would be offensive to gamers that will play through the campaign. Controls in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered is the same from the original game.  You can customize the controller setting in the main menu, however as you would expect from a shooter, the left thumb stick moves your character, the right one is for aiming and interaction.  The triggers are for firing weapons and aiming down the sights, the other buttons are for grenades, special ammo, and other abilities.  The face buttons are used for reloading, interaction, jumping and ducking in the game.  All the controller settings can be adjusted in the menu of the game.  The controls are very sharp and very responsive for a shooter.  In our play testing, we did not encounter any issues wit the game controller settings or even controls in the game.  As the game is a shooter, there is no need for a special controller.  The game can be played with the standard controller without any problems.

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster for any COD fans out there is a MUST PLAY just for the single player campaign.  With the 4K update to the graphics alone is just a joy to see in action.  Any fans of military shooters will love this game.”

Family Friendly

Back in 2009 when the sequel of the COD Modern Warfare series first came out, the single player of the game was flawless.  Great story, action pieces, characters, locations and overall, just all out fun for any shooter fans out there.  The all-star voice acting cast and score (which was done by Hans Zimmer BTW) alone was well worth going through the single player game.  Yes, the multiplayer was muddled with lots of glitches and issues but as the multiplayer grew, so did lots of problems.  They were eventually fixed but what made this game shine was the single player.  In this 2020 remaster of the 2009 game they went back and made something that wonderful to begin with even better.  As the series grew with its story, the development team went back to the remaster and added more “Easter eggs” to the game where true fans will notice and appreciate.  In this review I will not go over these said surprises but just for the sake of conversation I will tell you that it was a real treat to see how much detail that they have placed into the remaster.  Another great thing that they added is that the “intel” laptops that you find from mission to mission will unlock new modifiers that you can use to play the game with.  Again, without going into spoilers they do make the game a lot more fun (even though they do not allow achievements or trophies to be unlocked while active) but still a great change up.  Some of them also adds a new dynamic to the game that at the time of this review that gamers are still are discovering.  Another addition is after you finish the campaign is that there is a museum that you can go and visit all the game levels, assets, weapons, and artwork.  There is a special thing that you can do in this mode but again this will be a surprise and we will tell you that you should be ready for it! Now one of the controversary of the game was the mission “No Russian” again the game allows you to skip this mission without any penalty to your progress in the game.  Some gamers were disturbed by this level and for those that are going to pick this up, be assured that you can skip this level.  Now keep in mind that this is a digital title for the single player only.  This version does not have the multiplayer portion of the game.  This is only a stand-alone single player game.  So, for those that are looking for the multiplayer experience you may want to just stick to other games from the series that offer this mode.  Overall, this remaster is a just a fun game to play over again.  Now for those that have played the game before and remember how the game went, some may be able to complete the game in one sitting or roughly around 5-6 hours depending on the difficulty that you play on.  This was the only complaint that we had with the remaster, but with the new modifiers and this was a minor issue.  In our special needs game testing, we did not run into any issue with the game graphics, audio or even controls.  The game is very special needs gaming friendly.  We will say this, if you are a fan of the single player portion of the COD series, then this is a must have game for your digital library.  Again, remember that outside of some cool bonuses that come for Warzone, there is not the multiplayer portion of the game from 2009.

Closing

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remaster is a fantastic game that looks, sounds, and plays even better than it did 11 years ago.  Any fans of the single player portion of the COD series will love this remaster.  We highly recommend picking this up for your digital library.
