Ben 10

Play as Ben from the Ben 10 cartoon series as you take on some of his infamous enemies from Zombozo, Queen Bee, and the Weatherheads.  As Ben you have the ability to turn into 10 different aliens with their own superpowers to help defeat Ben’s enemies and save the day.

General Gameplay

Ben 10 is a side scroller beat them up style of gameplay in which you go from level to level, fighting enemies, using Ben’s powers to change to different aliens to help in his quest to stop his enemies. The Game Visuals are very vivid and easy to see on the screen.  The game is very animated in its visuals, like the cartoon itself.  Ben 10 game colors are very bright and easy to see.  All the objects from enemies, backgrounds, characters and the aliens that Ben turns into are very well drawn and easy to see.  As there is no colorblind mode in the game, it is not needed at all.  In our playtesting we did not run into anything that would be offensive to younger gamers.  If anything, the game uses cartoon violence to show defeated enemies as you would see in the cartoon itself.  Audio for Ben 10 is very clear and easy to hear.  The game heavy borrows from the animated TV series with its sound effects, voice overs and character banter, so if you watch the TV series you will be familiar with the sounds and audio from the game.  The game is in 5.1 surround sound and sounds fine in either from a surround sound, the TV speakers or even headset.  In our playtesting, we did not run into anything audio wise that would be a concern, and that the game is fine for any gamer from 7 on up in age.  The Controls for Ben 10 are more geared around controller setting for a side scroller beat them up.  With a basic layout you have your standard attack, jump, special and morphing buttons.  The controls are very easy to use in the game and designed for any gamer of any age to pick up and play the game.  In our playtesting we did run into any issues with the controls for the game.  Also, as the game does not need a special controller to play, so you should be ok using the standard controller to play the game.

“As Ben 10 does a great job of recreating the action that you would see in the show, the game does become boring and repetitive after a while.”

Family Friendly

In our playtesting with both fans of the TV show and non-fans of the Ben 10 series had one thing in common when playing the game, it got real boring quick.  Now to say that Ben 10 is a bad game, no but more only for the hardcore fans of the series.  One of the other things that people in our play testing group had an issue with was the fact that the game can be beaten on one sitting.  The game is short, with only 6 level and each level can be completed within 15-20 minutes, there is not much content in the game.  Also, after the game is completed, there is nothing much to do other than gain battle points to upgrade your aliens, or just go back to collect cards that are hidden in the levels.  Also one thing that we disagree with the ESRB with its rating of E10, the game violence is very minor and that it is equal to watching an episode of Ben 10 on Cartoon Network and the game should have been rated E – For Everyone, again parents use your discretion when playing the game to see what is a good fit for your gaming family.  In our special needs game testing we did not run into any issues with the game visuals, audio, or even controls.  The only thing was that the game was short, and that it got boring quick for almost all our gamers.    Again, this is not a bad game just more of a game for hardcore fans of the series.  If you are on the fence on Ben 10, best to rent the game.

Closing

Ben 10 does a good job of capturing the action of the popular TV series, but with repetitive gameplay and being a short game, it is best to rent the game.
