Table Top Racing: World Tour

Table Top Racing: World Tour is a combat racing game that is all about racing miniature cars around a table top environment, from a whole new perspective.

General Gameplay

Table Top Racing: World Tour is a combat racing arcade game in which you go through different trials of events and use the winnings to upgrade your Table Top Racer.  The General Gameplay of Table Top Racing: World Tour is all about racing around miniature tracks – but from the perspective of the driver, a tabletop looks like a giant landscape. Imagine racing from the perspective of a car small enough to race on a table in a sushi restaurant, dodging a tuna roll as you drift around the corners! With 20 different tracks and different types of racing events (General Race, Knockout, Time Trial) special events and online multiplayer, there’s plenty to keep your gamer engaged. When you complete an event, you earn experience points and coins to purchase upgrades and new racing cars to use.  There are championship mode events as well to earn more coins, experience and unlock new levels.  As with any combat racer, you can pick up power ups that you can use during the race for speed boosts, rockets and other weapons, as well to purchase upgrades to give you another type of power up to use.  Game Visuals are very sharp and clear to see in the game.  The game is a visual treat to see as everything from the cars themselves, to backgrounds and all other things going on the screen are done very much in amazing detail. In fact, the backgrounds of the tracks in Table Top Racing: World Tour are a big part of what makes this game so special. During our playtesting, we did not encounter anything that would be inappropriate for any younger gamers nor anyone in your gaming family.  The game does not support a color-blind mode, however the game’s graphics are very clear to see without one. The in-game Audio is done very well that sounds great throughout the game.  The soundtrack of the game was actually done by Breakbeat producer Wes Smith of Juice Recordings, and is another element that makes this game so much fun.  The techno beats complement the game very well and give it yet another way to enjoy the game – even listening while other gamers play is fun!  As with any combat racer, you have sound effects that go with the game, and during our game testing we did not encounter anything that would be offensive to any gamers in your family.  The game sounds well n 5.1 surround sound and when using headphones. We would recommend playing the game with either, but in our experience with this game, it’s best to at least play the game with a headset once as you can really enjoy the game soundtrack.  As always, parents/guardians, please use caution with extended usage of headsets for longer gaming sessions.  Table Top Racing: World Tour’s Controls settings are very easy to use.  The game was designed to be very friendly for anyone to pick up and play the game.  With the standard triggers to move forward and reverse, two weapon settings, and a button to reset your car during the race, Table Top Racing: World Tour controls are designed to be a tightly-controlled racer. One of the things that a racer needs to have is tight control, and this game’s controls are very tight; we did not have any issues with controlling the action on the screen.  The game does not require any type of special controller to play as the standard controllers that came with your console are fine to use.

“What makes Table Top Racing: World Tour World Racing isn’t that it is a beautiful, unique game to see in motion, or even the fabulous soundtrack, but all those things combined with great racing controls”

Family Friendly

One of the things that we heard often during our play testing and special needs testing was “I don’t want to stop playing the game, it is so much fun…” and we must agree.  With the console market flooded with racing games, this one stands out like no other.  Every part of the game, from the landscapes, to the controls and the different types of races make the game a joy to play.  Whether you are a hard-core racing fan or not, Table Top Racing: World Tour is just fun.  Also, what makes the game even more fun is the soundtrack that plays in the background during the race.  Some out there may not be a fan of Techno music, but I can personally say that the game’s soundtrack fits well with the action the same way it would fit with an action scene in a movie. In our special needs testing we did not encounter any issues, expect that some of our Autism and Asperger’s gamers that felt that the soundtrack was too loud, but by lowering the volume the problem was solved, and they were able to continue gaming and loving the landscapes.  Another concern was that when we tried to test the multiplayer of the game, we were not able to find any gamers online to play with, so if you have or a fan of online play it may be harder to find other gamers to play with. However, the game is still completely enjoyable with offline and local play, and at such a low price point, you can recruit your own multiplayer squad by encouraging friends and family with gamers to grab a copy of the game.  One of the things that we do wish that the developers allowed was the ability to choose which soundtrack to play for each race, but we’re nitpicking – the entire soundtrack is so good that it’s hard not to have some favorite tracks.
