Fast RMX

Fast RMX is a futuristic racer that has a unique boost feature – but to get it, you must change your shield color to be absorbed or get left behind!

General Gameplay

The game is a futuristic racer with a twist, much like the F-Zero series on other Nintendo consoles. It has a race course with hazards that you have to avoid and different-colored boost strips that give you more speed and boost pickups that help you fill your boost meter.

Audio

A mixture of techno riffs and background music is what fills the game’s audio.  There is no spoken dialogue in the game and the music is mostly used to complement the game’s action.  During our playtesting, we noticed that most of our gamers did not even pay attention to the in-game music, as they were mostly paying attention to the action.  The in-game audio can be adjusted in the menu, and for playing on the go we recommend using headphones to enjoy the game’s music.  Again, be sure to monitor the extended use of headsets while gaming.

Visuals

Fast RMX uses a bright, colorful pallette for its colors in the game.  Graphics are sharp and crisp, and all the details are easily seen.  The game does a great job of showcasing different tracks with the details to show why each one is unique from the other.  The game also looks great from tablet (720P) viewing to the docked (1080P) view; there is no loss of detail whatsoever.  The game does not support a color-blind mode, but the colors are so vivid that there is no need for one.  In our play testing we did not run into any issues with the graphics, and even our family gaming testers who have trouble seeing colors didn’t have any trouble playing the game.  On the Nintendo Switch, this is one of those good-looking games that showcases the Switch’s graphics.

Controls

When in tablet mode, the game’s controls work well for mobile play.  Having one thumb stick steer the ship and turbo, accelerate, and shield shift buttons, the game is very easy on the controls.  The triggers are used to lean left and right.  During our playtest, when Fast RMX was running on the console, the game on a Joy-Con grip feels fine. However, playing local multiplayer on the individual Joy-Cons feels harder as the controller makes it difficult to play longer sessions… or so we noticed during our playtesting.  No special controller is needed to use to play Fast RMX, but it is recommended to use a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller as it makes it easier to play the game while the system is docked and for extended play.

“Fast RMX is a fun, futuristic racer that will have you racing for hours.”

Delivery

For those who have an itch for a F-Zero style of racer, Fast RMX is the game for you.  With its good balance of different courses, vehicles and overall gameplay, this is a great futuristic racer to have in your digital library.  The game is a fun game to have, and the shifting of the shield colors to get an extra boost is a good strategy that helps with the gameplay.  Fast RMX is a great game to have for your Switch.

Family Friendly

Racing games are a dime a dozen in the gaming industry, but Fast RMX it is a great family-friendly game to have in your digital library.  With its fast-paced racing action, lots of courses, local co-op and online play, Fast RMX is has a lot of fun to offer.  In our playtesting we did not run into any issues except for the individual Joy-Con extended use; other than that, this is a great game.  Now racing may not be everyone’s forte in gaming, but Fast RMX is a game that can be picked up and played by any gaming member in your family.  In our special needs game testing, none of our special needs gamers in our family had any problems picking up the game, playing it or even playing in split screen (we advise to play in the docked mode vs. the 6” screen). Fast RMX is one of those games that fits well into a family’s digital library and is fun for all to play.
